Angels pursuing multi-year deal with Callaspo

Third baseman Alberto Callaspo has a two-year contract proposal on the table from the Angels, an industry source told MLB.com.

Callaspo is in his last year of arbitration and is headed into his final season before free agency unless the two sides can finalize the deal.

Locking him up through 2014 would make him a stopgap until top prospect Kaleb Cowart is ready.

Solid signing. Defense should be the priority at this position. I am not sold on all the people that want the big bat. We have enough with Pujols, Hamilton, Trumbo, Trout….Cowart in 2 years or less….

The division wirenns are seeded 1-2-3, per league, with the best W-L record getting the #1 seed. On-paper tiebreakers exist if necessary. The league wildcard team is seeded 4 regardless of its W-L record. The wildcard cannot play the champion of its own division in the Division Series. If the wildcard and the #1 seed are from the same division, the pairings are 1-3 and 2-4. If the wildcard is not from the same division, the pairings are standard 1-4 and 2-3. Higher seed has homefield for Game 1.
